What are Arcus bows?

The bows made by Bernd Muesing and his associates are totally different from anything you'll find these days. Although the sticks are made from carbon fiber, they are nothing like those we are used to encountering. Lighter, with a different mass distribution, but also with a completely new feel, thanks to a unique manufacturing process.

 

 

What are the advantages of an Arcus violin bow?

Their lightness and liveliness enable them to perfectly convey all the subtleties and delicacy of virtuoso playing.

Arcus violin mallets (the numbers)

The numbers engraved on all Arcus drumsticks indicate, above all, their level of quality. Although each one is rigorously manufactured, it turns out that they have very different qualities in terms of sound. In fact, this is the result of a production process that remains hand-crafted, even though it combines high-tech elements.

That's why Bernd Müsing and his bow makers take the time to judge each stick and classify them according to precise criteria. They sometimes spend dozens of minutes discussing the acoustic qualities of a piece of carbon.

Whatever the case, the result is that only the most exceptional baguettes manage to achieve the highest figures.

 

Round or octagonal rods

Il existe en fait deux façons de baguettes à travers les séries ~ P ~ et ~ S ~ : ronde ou octogonale. Cela n’a guère d’influence sur la qualité du son mais plutôt sur la sensation, notamment lors du jeu en sautillé.

Models with a round cross-section are rather stable and follow every movement of your arm. If you have a rather nervous hand, this shape will probably be better suited to your game, as it will be able to follow your every movement without exaggerating it.

Les archets aux sections octogonales sont quant à eux beaucoup plus dynamiques et sautillent presque d’eux même. Ils sont plutôt destinés aux violonistes à la main calme et qui préfèrent laisser la baguette faire le travail toute seule.

The best way to choose is to try out both possibilities. On the other hand, an excellent test is to play a very slow and powerful spiccato.

Par contre, les archets Arcus pour violon de la série ~ M ~ sont tous dotés de baguettes rondes. Toutefois, elles sont légèrement plus souples, ce qui confère un jeu très équilibré.

Obviously, there won't be many places where you can try out Arcus bows. However, you can come to the workshop and try them out with your violin. I won't always have all the models available in all the options, but if you're interested in a particular bow and we organize that well, it's always possible to be able to show you exactly what you're looking for!

To ensure that your bow is completely protected on its way to you, I offer you a BAM bow tube. This will not only guarantee trouble-free transport of your stick. But it will also enable you to reuse it if, for example, you need to send it back to me for rehairing or overhaul.
