Instrument restoration

The instrument has been fully restored in my workshop and is ready to perform at its best. Please feel free to request a full condition report if you are interested.

That said, it is difficult to speak of restoration in the case of this instrument, which has not really suffered any damage. Only the patina of time is present on its surface.

Origin of the instrument

This violin comes straight from the workshops of Roger & Max Millant in 1944. These two brothers, only two years apart, were heirs to the Deroux family and their partnership, which gave its name to the famous Parisian firm Millant-Deroux(from which the famous rosin is derived). They learned in particular from their grandfather Sébastien Auguste Deroux, then went on to perfect their skills in Mirecourt, with Léon Mougenot and even in London, before settling permanently in Paris.

They won prizes and medals for their instruments, notably at Cremona and La Hague in 1949, and several others in the '50s.

Instruments not signed by the masters themselves, but bearing the workshop label, were made by their collaborators in Paris or by Léon Mougenot in Mirecourt.

Violin sound

To give you an idea of the violin's sound, here it is played by Erica JANG.
