Prosper COLAS bow ~1900 in detail
The wand and the head
The head shows a rather advanced forehead, typical of these bows.
The knob and mechanism
The sterling silver button is in excellent condition, despite wear that has left its corners rounded.
The mechanism has been replaced by a fine thread.
The rise
The frog is carved from a block of very fine-grained ebony. Its shape is still good, even if it shows a lot of wear from heavy use. This is also a sign of the musical quality of this stick.
The game
With its perfectly adjusted weight and balance, this bow has excellent playability. In addition, the stick sound is very interesting.
In any case, I can make adjustments to suit your needs at any time.
Prosper COLAS bow condition report ~1900

The bow maker Prosper COLAS
The origins of Prosper Colas are rather obscure, as they are based more on oral tradition than on written evidence. However, it is said that after apprenticing locally with contemporaries from the late Peccatte school, he arrived in Paris in 1871 to work for Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume. It was around this time that bows signed with his name began to appear.
He evolved in a style quite similar to Bazin's, while retaining his own distinctive characteristics. Production reached its peak around 1900, when it was sold by many luthiers and stores throughout France.
He died in 1919, leaving behind an astronomical output.
