The wand and the head
The rod, made of beautiful orange-colored pernambuco wood, is triangularly planed along its length. It reveals a very fine, straight grain with tight pores.
The head is rather angular and modern, with an ivory head plate.

The rise
The frog is carved from a block of ebony and entirely mounted in silver. The mother-of-pearl is sky-blue and green, with violet highlights.
The knob and mechanism
The solid silver button with beautiful, well-marked double grooves is secured by a silver pin.
The mechanism is in perfect working order and shows no signs of fatigue.

Bow maker Jean-Paul LAUXERROIS
Jean-Paul Lauxerrois was born in the Val d'Oise, in the family of Étienne VATELOT. His career began at the age of 19, when he took a course in violin making with Marcel VATELOT. However, he was more interested in bows, and went to François LOTTE in Mirecourt to learn bow making.
Once he had completed his training, he returned to the VATELOT firm, where he worked alongside André CHARDON. This is how he developed his style over nine years. His bows ended up in the hands of influential musicians such as Maurice Gendron and Arthur Grumiaux.
In the 1960s, he gave up bow making because of the economic crisis. He didn't rediscover his vocation until 1980, when he moved to Bordeaux to work with Pierre TACONNE, creating numerous bows, including this one.
He ended his career in 1993 at the age of 65, and remains known today as one of the talented bow makers who contributed to the revival of French bow making in the second half of the 20th century.
