Description
This 19th-century Etienne Perrin Mirecourt violin is a typical example of early 19th-century Mirecurtian violin making. Its proportions are fairly standard, despite its size, which places it very close to a small viola. It's the result of sound research typical of the period.

Origin of the violin Etienne Perrin Mirecourt 19th century
This violin by Etienne PERRIN (& Fils) is a pure Mirecurtienne production from the early 19th century. This violin maker, born in 1785 in Mirecourt, has a pure Vosges family name. His work is recognized as typical of the period, with rather flat arches and a rather fine alcohol varnish. The mitering of the purflings is also very characteristic, in that they readily protrude from the instrument to completely cross the wedge.
A common commercial practice of the time was to mark these instruments 'à Paris' to give them a more prestigious appearance. But this is definitely a Mirecourt production.
Violin sound
To give you an idea of the violin's sound, here it is played by Erica JANG.

Etienne Perrin violin Mirecourt 19th century
This violin has an interesting sound, thanks to its rather large body, which brings out a rich bass. However, it should be reserved for larger violinists or those who are comfortable playing violas.
Try it and see for yourself!
