Have you ever had those dreams, readers, that seem truer than reality? If you were able to come out of one of these dreams, how would you tell the difference between the dream world and reality? That's exactly what the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg is proposing to us during its special evening to celebrate the Zenith's 10th anniversary this year. I had the great pleasure of attending, so I'm going to share my thoughts with you. Step in and out of the matrix with the OPS, for one evening!

Break out of the matrix with OPS
From the very first notes that accompany the appearance of the Warner logos, a great chill runs down my spine. It's a striking entrance that immediately makes you realize the full depth of this titanic project. The principle is as follows: to host a giant screen projection of the film Matrix at the Zénith in Strasbourg. Far from being a simple cinema projection, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg performs the entire film soundtrack, conducted by Don Davis. For those who don't know him, he's the film's composer himself!
Matrix, a science-fiction masterpiece
I think the choice of film is a powerful one for the organization of such a musico-cinematic event. First of all, it's not just any film, since in its day it was a veritable revolution. Indeed, many of its scenes and special effects have gone down in history. However, the most striking elements are undoubtedly part of the excellent depth that lies beneath the appearance of entertainment.
A surprising and explosive mix that won it numerous awards on its release(1999). It was so well received by critics and audiences alike that two sequels followed.
Virtual reality flight with PAHO
The concert presented by Don Davis and the Strasbourg Philharmonic goes far beyond the simple interpretation of a soundtrack synchronized with a video.
Indeed, what could have been more appropriate than to take the Matrix music off-screen and transform it into a real-life performance? It's so well suited to defining the evolution of the characters within this virtual reality. At the same time, we are constantly reminded of the depth of the implicit discourse.
Is it then the music that comes to life and that we come to admire, leaving the film to simply illustrate its purpose? Or is it the other way around? Here too, I think we have a choice between the red pill and the blue one.

An impressive crowd of spectators
Yes, really, when I went there, I thought I was in another reality. For one thing, I didn't realize that this was France's biggest Zenith in terms of capacity. Spectators of all ages were pouring in at all the entrances.
The hall was not packed, but most of the 12,000 available seats were occupied for the evening. A huge audience forStrasbourg's philharmonic orchestra, whose home is the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès. Palais de la Musique et des Congrèsdoes not even exceed 2,000 seats in its largest hall.
Could it be that the influence of film and video game music is recreating the orchestral concert craze? If you get out of the matrix with the OPS, why not follow it during the season too? It's a great musical experience every time.

Just magnificent! I was intrigued to find Matrix on your site, but it's true that perfectly crafted film music is hypnotic and dreamlike! Thanks for sharing, Guillaume...
